Mattel Children’s Hospital is located in and is an integral part of the UCLA Medical Center, consistently ranked among the top five hospitals in the country. We have approximately 1100 admissions to our Pediatric ICU service per year. Medical subspecialty services include Hematology/Oncology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Genetics, Allergy/Immunology, and Rheumatology. In addition, a full complement of pediatric surgical subspecialty services are available including General Surgery, Neurosurgery, ENT, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Orthopedic surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, Trauma surgery, and Transplant surgery. Among our staff of specialists are many leading scholars and pioneers in their field. We have active transplant programs for heart, liver, small bowel, and kidney. UCLA hospital performs among the highest numbers of heart and liver transplants in the world.
he Pediatric Cardiothoracic surgery service is rapidly growing, as is our population of patients with complex congenital heart disease. In addition to a generous number of open heart surgeries, 20-30 Pediatric heart transplants are performed each year. We have a separate unit for our post-operative cardiac surgical patients, and care is a collaborative effort among Intensivists, Cardiologists, and Surgeons. In addition to open-heart surgeries and transplants, our patients requiring ventricular assist devices (VAD) and ECMO receive care in the CT-ICU.
